DR. DIMITRIS RIZIOTIS (DR. IUR., LL.M.) IS ATTORNEY-AT-LAW, MEMBER OF THE ATHENS BAR. HE SPECIALIZES IN ANTITRUST, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND COMMERCIAL LAW.

Dimitris studied law at the University of Athens (LL.B.), while having spent a semester as Erasmus student at the University of Bordeaux IV, and earned his LL.M. and Ph.D. (Dr. iur.) from the University of Munich. His doctoral thesis was on the abuse of dominance/monopolization under US, EU and German law.

Having been awarded a scholarship from the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), Dimitris performed his Ph.D. research at the Max-Planck-Institute for Innovation and Competition, where he had the opportunity to also delve into many issues of US, EU and German antitrust and intellectual property law including the interface between antitrust and intellectual property. His publications are in the areas of antitrust, intellectual property, patent law and EU freedoms.

As a practitioner, Dimitris has handled numerous antitrust cases before the Greek competition authorities, courts and arbitration tribunals covering all areas of competition law: merger control, cartels, non-covert agreements between competitors, vertical restraints and abuse of dominance. Several of those cases involved complex economic assessment, as well as sector-specific regulation (energy, telecoms, pharmaceuticals).

He has also advised a significant number of clients from different sectors on all kinds of antitrust matters. Additionally, Dimitris is also experienced in M&A and corporate law and has drafted several intellectual property license agreements both for licensors and for licensees.
